All businesses have an explicit legal requirement to conduct fire risk assessments! Some businesses opt to use online templates and complete themselves but should an incident occur involving the Fire & Rescue Service or an inspection from a Fire Officer, would they consider the person completing the FRA to be competent? Probably not, that’s why it is always best to bring in someone with the correct knowledge, experience and qualifications – and that’s me! The assessment will consist of a brief introduction meeting to understand the premises and any concerns you may have as well as reviews of your previous Fire Risk Assessment.
Then a full inspection of the premises will occur including loft and void areas, riser cupboards, plant rooms, store cupboards, etc. The inspection will include a sample of bedrooms (if applicable to the property type) and a tour of the external grounds.
Finally I will conduct a review of documentation which may include EICR, PAT, Gas Safe Certificate, Oil System, Fire Alarm, Emergency Lighting, Fire Extinguisher, Fire Doors, PEEPS, AOVs, Pressure Vessels, Lightning Protection, Dry Riser, Sprinkler, Drills, Training, Policies and various in house daily, weekly, monthly, etc, checks and tests such as weekly fire alarm, monthly emergency lighting and six monthly fire drills (where applicable).
A debrief would be carried out on site, focussing on significant findings only if there are a large number of findings and a detailed report and action plan submitted after the assessment.
